Fruit export volume can be enhanced by following int’l standards: Dastgir

ISLAMABAD: Federal Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir has said that Pakistani fruit exporters can enhance export volume of fruits if they follow international standards. For this purpose, he emphasised the need for launching an awareness campaign for mango farmers in particular.

He said this while chairing a meeting on mango export at the Ministry of Commerce. Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Bosan, senior officials from both ministries and experts on the subject were also present during the meeting.

The commerce minister stressed on adoption of modern ways for marketing and export of Pakistani mangoes to developed countries.

Dastgir said, “We need a comprehensive awareness campaign for farmers to protect mangoes from insects and other diseases besides providing the Vapour Heat Treatment (VHT) plants for mangoes.” The mango growers, he said, should be provided with disease-resistant sprays and remedies.

He urged to maintain international export packing standards to protect the quality of mangoes. Khurram Dastgir also proposed for the registration of mango farms.
