KARACHI: The Appraising Officials Association of Pakistan Customs in its meeting at customs house has decided to form a committee in order to probe the real aspects behind registering an FIR against an appraising officer by the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation I&I.
According to details, a committee comprising Shaheen Farooqui, Javed Akhtar, Mir Mansoor, Dost Muhammad and Haris Khan has been formed in order to review reasons on which the FIR had been lodged against appraising official Sarfaraz Bangash Zai.
The meeting of Appraising Officials Association was presided by President Javed Raza while General Secretary Raja Waseem and others were also present on the occasion.
It was also decided in the meeting that the prevailing issue would also be taken up before the high authorities of Pakistan Customs including Chief Collector Appraisement-South, Collector of MCC-East and Collector of MCC-West after Eid-ul-Fitr.
The participants were of the view that the Customs I&I during entire process of registering an FIR has violated the Customs Act, 1969 and DIT has exceeded its jurisdiction.
The Association while strongly condemning Customs I&I demanded immediate withdrawal of an FIR against appraising officer.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Customs I&I has registered an FIR, few days ago against an appraiser of Group-IV namely Sarfaraz Bangash Zai on his alleged involvement in giving wrong benefit of SRO to the importer and ignored lab report in coining oil/mineral oil.
