ALABAMA: The 6th annual Wiregrass United Way bus tour was held September 17.The bus made stops in six counties, and United Way members visited and celebrated the pacesetter organizations from each county. Miss Alabama, Meg McGuffin, was along for the ride. She spoke with the audiences about community service.

“I encourage you to take the ‘you’ out of ‘united’, because community service isn’t about you. It’s about others, and improving someone else’s quality of life,” she would say to the eager crowds. This year, the United Way has aimed to raise $2,728,290 dollars. By the end of the tour, Walter Hill had hoped to be at 30 percent of that goal.

“We have 103 companies that signed up to be pacesetters, so we know we’re over that, over the 30 percent,” says Hill. They were over the goal. By the end of the tour, 47.53 percent of the goal had been raised. These companies combined raised $1,296,892 for the United Way campaign that kicked off in August.
