KARACHI: Collector of MCC-Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem while commenting on the recovery through audit “paras” sent by the Directorate of Internal Audit (Customs) said that the Collectorate has decided to conduct the recovery on “agreed amount” by three stages.

Elaborating the recovery stages, Collector Muhammad Saleem said that the Collectorate in first stage has found that the Directorate of Internal Audit-Customs has detected incorrect amount for recovery and the Collectorate has pointed out that amount to the Directorate of Internal audit, while in the second stage, the recovery is continued on the “agreed amount”. Therefore, in the third and final stage, the Collectorate is to recover the pending amount pointed out by the Directorate of Internal Audit (Customs).

The Additional Collector, Nayyar Shafiq has informed this scribe that the Collectorate has recovered Rs1million so far, acting on the pointed out amount sent by the Directorate of Internal Audit, while most of the audit paras sent by the Directorate of Internal Audit are incorrect, as it has raised recoveries in many paras on the basis of system error.

“For instance, the Directorate of Internal Audit has sent many audit paras in which it stated that the description/commodity has been imported from Germany, while on scrutinizing it was found that the import of the said description was made through China,” he added. Replying to a query, Shafiq said that the Collectorate is continuing the recovery process on genuine audit paras and will finalise it soon.
