Court extends judicial remand of suspect in Rs 5.5m currency smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended the judicial remand of a suspect who is involved in currency smuggling case.

According to details, Shahbaz Ahmad was arrested by the Customs Preventive at Lahore airport when they foiled a bid to smuggle Rs 5.2 million foreign currencies from Lahore to Muscat.

Suspect Shahbaz Ahmad was produced before the Court after completion of a 14-day physical remand. After hearing the arguments from the counsels of customs, the court granted a 14-day judicial remand of the accused and sent him to jail.

The accused was set for travelling by Air Blue flight no. PA 450. However, he was arrested by the customs authorities before boarding.

The accused tactfully fixed the Omani riyals with his body which was removed by the customs authorities.
