Faisalabad Customs Intelligence confiscates 250 bags of red chilli, truck

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized 250 bags of red chilli worth Rs 509,500 involving/taxes Rs 217164, besides impounding the truck worth Rs 400,000, which was being used for the transportation of smuggled goods.

Following the information received through Deputy Director Riaz Hussain, the intelligence team raided near Sadhar Bypass Chowk, Jhang Road, Faisalabad and intercepted a truck bearing Registration No. GLT-8192 and recovered bags filled with red chilli.

The official asked the driver named Shahbaz Ahmed and owner Muhammad Younus to produce the documents regarding customs clearance but they failed to do the same. Therefore, the customs impounded the truck and chilli under Section 168 and 157(2) of the Customs Act, 1969.

The intelligence team comprising Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir and Sepoys Tajamal Hussain and Muhammad Musaddiq Ahmad participated in the raid.

The seizure report has been sent to the adjudication for further legal action.
