Ministry proposes 58 projects worth Rs 3.15b for next year

ISLAMABAD: The government will carry out as many as 58 projects worth Rs 3.15 billion proposed by the Ministry of Science and Technology under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for next fiscal year 2016-17.

According to the ministry, Rs 2.253 billion was proposed against 34 ongoing projects including Rs 1.629 billion proposed against 18 ongoing projects carried over from PSDP 2015-16, while Rs 624.157 million proposed against 16 projects already approved projects not included in PSDP 2015-16.

It was revealed that the government earmarked Rs 1.51 billion under the PSDP for 2015-16 against 32 projects and released only Rs 338.669 million i.e. only 28 percent in two quarters (July-December) of current financial year.

The ministry also proposed 24 new projects worth Rs 896 million under the PSPD. It is mentioned here that due to delay in completion of the projects, their costs have increased resulting in huge loss to the national exchequer.
