Pakistan, Afghanistan to sign treaty to avoid double taxation

PESHAWAR: Pakistan and Afghanistan will initiate negotiations for signing a treaty to avoid double taxation, improve bilateral trade and curb smuggling.

Sources told Customs Today that a six-member Afghan delegation is expected to meet tax authorities to begin negotiations for signing convention on the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Afghan delegation will consist of senior tax officials. The FBR’s tax authorities are expected to meet their counterparts from Afghanistan to facilitate citizens of the two countries.

Sources said that at present there was no convention signed between Pakistan and Afghanistan on the said issue. However, Afghanistan Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA) was already inked between the two countries.

The business community of both sides will benefit from the convention on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion between the two countries.
