Customs Intelligence confiscates non-duty paid red chillies, truck

FAISALABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized 301 bags of red chillies worth Rs 147,4500 involving taxes Rs936307, besides impounding the truck which was being used for transportation of smuggled goods.

According to sources of Customs Today Additional Director, Azmat Tahira received credible information about some smuggling attempts. After which she formed a team comprising Suprintendent Muhammad Rafique, Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir and sepoys Khalil Ahmed, Fakhar Abbas, Mukhtar Hussain, Shoukat Hayat, and Muhammad Iqbal.

The customs team intercepted a truck bearing registration No. E- 9067 (Peshawar) near Chenab Chowk  and recovered bags filled with red chillies.

The team asked the driver who was identified as Abdul Ghaffar son of Ramzan and owner Umar Farooq  to produce the documents regarding customs clearance but they failed to show any relevant documents. Therefore, the customs team impounded the truck and chillies under Section 168 and 157(2) of the Customs Act, 1969.
