LAHORE: Punjab Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha has said that luxury services will be focused for increasing tax net in the Punjab budget.
The minister expressed these views during meeting with a delegation of DFID at head office of Punjab Revenue Authority.
“Due burden will be put on small traders while formula of recovery of property tax will be evolved and keeping in view the problems of middleclass”, she said, adding that reforms in tax policy will result in increasing resources and gradually reducing tax rate.
The minister said that automation in the system of registration and recoveries will play an important role with regard to facilities in the business which will increase the confidence of private sector in public sector besides create environment of mutual cooperation.
She thanked the delegation on consultation of DFID in tax reforms and financial affairs. Members of the delegation included Secretary of Senate for International Development Justin Greening, British High Commissioner Thomas Drew, Director General Finance and Corporate Performance Joy Huchan who were received by Chief Secretary Punjab Capt (r) Zahid Saeed, Secretary Finance Shaukat Ali, Chairman Punjab Revenue Authority Raheel Ahmed Siddiqui and senior members of PRA.
Visiting Secretary State, who is also part of cabinet of British Prime Minister David Cameron, congratulated Punjab Revenue Authority on attaining the honour of first provincial agency collecting maximum tax. Justin Greening termed Restaurant Device Monitoring System of the authority and Amanat scheme as best method of public movement.
