KARACHI: Taking action against drugs smugglers near Jiwani, the Model Customs Collectorate, Gwadar, has seized a huge quantity of foreign origin alcohol and charas.
Gwadar Customs Collector Saeed Akram received information that foreign origin liquor and drugs are being smuggled through a ship near Jiwani. He formed an anti-smuggling team after getting information.
Under the supervision of deputy collector, the team, comprising Inspector Masroor Hussain, Additional Sub Inspector Malik Tahir, Mujeeb Khan and others started patrolling in open sea to trace the ship.
The officials intercepted a suspected ship and started checking that led to the recovery of 200 bottles of foreign liquor, 500 kilogram of charas and 500 gram of opium. The customs officials confiscated the bottles and drugs, besides arresting three accused persons during the raid. The officials also impounded the ship. Value of impounded ship and drugs has been estimated at Rs 6 million.
Meanwhile, the Gwadar Customs staff confiscated smuggled tablets and cell phones during a raid in an area of Gwadar. Following the directions of the collector, the anti-smuggling staff established check posts at exit points of the city.
During checking, the staff intercepted a van and recovered 450 tablets and cell phones, which were being smuggled to Karachi and Hyderabad.
The Gwadar Customs impounded the van and cell phones worth Rs 450,000 under the customs laws, besides arresting two accused persons during the raid.
