Customs I&P registers FIR against owner of M/s Aqsa Traders due to tax fraud

FAISALABAD: The Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) Branch Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya registered a FIR against Ehsanul Haq Alvi owner of M/s Aqsa Traders and others in their alleged involvement in tax fraud by mis-declaration.

Sources told Customs Today that M/s Aqsa Traders Bilal Ganj market Faisalabad got involved in mis-declaring consignment of quantity, origin, value, weight and Unit of Measurement ( UOM ), aimed to evade duty/taxes levy able thereon.

The total assessed value of all items by assessment staff was Rs 3,130,136 while the declared value by the importer was Rs 2,166,050. The difference stood at Rs 964,086 duty and taxes was detected through re- examination by Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya along with team Inspector Khalid Ashraf Noor, Saeed Chohan and Ali Zahid.

After a joint examination, it was found that the mis-declaration of quantity, origin, value, weight and unit of measurement was in violation of Section 16, 18, 32(1)&(2), 79(1)(b), of the Customs Act, 1969 read with the Section 3(1) and (3), of import and Export Control act 1950 punishable under clause (9), (14),, (43), and (45), of section 156(1), read with section 157 and 178 of the customs act 1969.
