Customs Courts seeks comments on bail pleas of diesel smugglers

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed the special public prosecutor to file comments on bail applications filed by Samad Khan and Allah Noor Suleman Khail in a case pertaining to the smuggling of 5,000 liters Iranian diesel.

On Tuesday, the learned counsel for the both suspects filed applications for the bail stating that his clients were innocent and were falsely implicated in this case; therefore, the court may grant them pre-arrest bail.

During the hearing, special public prosecutor, sought time for preparation, while the court granted time and adjourned the hearing.

Earlier, investigation officer had produced the accused persons namely as Samad Khan and Allah Noor Suleman Khail before the court and submitted that both accused persons were trying to smuggle 5000 liters Iranian Diesel. After physical remand, court had sent them to Central Jail Karachi.

According to the FIR, on August 14, 2016, a Bedford Track bearing Registration No E-9315 traveling from Gadani to Karachi stopped at Pakistan Coast Guards check post. Driver of the Bedford Truck, Samad Khan and owner of the truck Allah Noor Suleman Khail were asked for checking of the truck. During examination, officials recovered 5,000 liters of Iranian diesel.

After the formalities, Bedford Truck approximately valued at Rs 1.5 million and 5,000 liters of diesel worth Rs 390,000 were seized and both accused persons were arrested.

Case was registered by complainant Fazal Ahmed, Pakistan Coast Guards Korangi, Karachi, violation of section 2 (s) and 161 punishable under section 156 (1) (1) (8) and (89) of the Customs Act, 1969.
