LCCI flays suspension of kerosene oil supply to industry

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) has demanded the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources to continue the supply of Kerosene oil to the industry as suspension is causing huge damage to the industrial sector.

The demand was raised at a meeting between the LCCI Senior Vice President Almas Hyder, dealers of Oil Distribution Companies and representatives of Small & Medium industries here at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Syed Sohail Hashmi, Arsalan Bashir, Akram Nawaz, Rana Tanveer and Sheikh Iqbal also spoke on the occasion.

The delegation members informed the LCCI Senior Vice President that Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources has stopped Kerosene supply to the dealers saying that it is a subsidized petroleum product and its supply to industry for commercial use is not allowed. Ministry has also advised industry to use alternate to Kerosene Oil.

Almas Hyder said that Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources should keep in view the ground realities and not stop the supply of Kerosene oil to the industry. He said that industrial sector cannot shift from one fuel to the other as there is no alternate of Kerosene is available.

The LCCI Senior Vice President said that that kerosene oil is being used for various industrial purposes but Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources has stopped the supply which is causing huge damage. He said that the plants of industrial units, where Kerosene Oil is being used for different purposes, have been designed to run on this fuel and no alternate fuel can be used. He said that if industry attempts to change in manufacturing process and design, it would take a long time besides throwing existing investment to the drain.

He demanded of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to restore supply of kerosene oil to the industry immediately as suspension had already caused heavy damage to the business activities.
