Faisalabad ASO seizes items worth Rs 2.62m in 7 days

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organisation (ASO) conducted various operations against smuggling on the special instructions by Additional Collector Saeed Asad and seized goods worth Rs 2.623 million during second week of September.

As per details, Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan Khan constituted a team consisting of Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspector Khalid Ashraf Noor and Ali Zahid, Sepoys Muhammad Ashraf, Liaquat Ali, Muhammad Naeem, Afzal Hussain and Muhammad Khalid to curb smuggling in the region.

The ASO team impounded a vehicle under Section 157 of the Customs Act, 1969 worth Rs 1 million which was being used for smuggling and transportation of smuggled goods. The team seized foreign origin cloth worth Rs 659,120 and miscellaneous items worth Rs 963,925. All these items were brought into the country without payment of customs duty and taxes.

As all accused persons failed to show documents regarding legal possession and lawful import of the items, the ASO seized the goods under Import and Export Control Act, 1950 punishable under Section 156(1)89(i) 90 of the Customs Act, 1969 and forward the cases to Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
