MULTAN: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office seized miscellaneous goods and vehicles worth Rs 310.95 million during the last six months.
Deputy Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office Naveedur Rehman Bughvi, during an exclusive interview with Customs Today, has said that his department had initiated massive crackdown against smuggled goods and non-duty paid vehicles in the jurisdiction after taking his responsibilities.
Deputy Director Naveedur Rehman has taken the charge of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office on March 14 of fiscal year 2015-16.
He said that Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office has made 40 seizure cases of worth Rs.20.2 million of miscellaneous goods during his tenure at Multan.
The goods seized by Customs Intelligence includes non-duty paid cigarettes, gutka, pan parag, different auto parts, poppy seeds, foreign origin cloths LTV and HTV tyres along with other smuggled goods.
In answer to a question Deputy Director Naveedur Rehman Bughvi said that Customs Intelligence have adopted zero tolerance policy against smugglers and smuggling goods in the jurisdiction of Multan after taking his charge with a mission to curb smuggling in the widely jurisdiction of Dera Ghazi and Sadiqabad region.
He said that the importance of South Punjab Region could not be ignored because it is surrounded by three borders of country and one of the frequently adopted smuggling route of Baluchistan Punjab exists in the jurisdiction.
He told that Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office have seized 78 non-duty paid foreign origin vehicles of worth Rs.117.45 million which includes extravagant vehicles of different brands and designs.
He told that we have focused on major areas of the jurisdiction which were widely used for smuggling activities to curb smuggling in the region.
It is necessary to mention here that Deputy Director Naveedur Rehman has made all transfers and postings in the jurisdiction on purely merit basis to carry out his anti-smuggling campaign in the region without any influence. These merit base transfers and postings have enhanced and strengthened the performance of Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Customs anti-smuggling teams in their assigned tasks.
He made crucial reshuffling of Field Intelligence Unit in the region to carry out his anti-smuggling operations in the region. Those employees which were not performing their duties up to the mark were also held accountable by their transfer from other region. Deputy director said that we have achieved maximum results from our limited resources of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office which was facing staff shortage for anti-smuggling activities in the widespread jurisdiction.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range have made record 118 seizures cases of worth Rs.310 .95 million in the Punjab by giving almost no space to smugglers. He said that Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office performance have been highly appreciated by Director General Imtiaz Ahmad and other high ups due to their effective strategy against smuggling.
Deputy Director Naveedur Rehman Bughvi have personally participated in the anti-smuggling activities, frequently paid surprised visits in various parts of the territory which made all employees of Customs Intelligence more attentive during their assigned work.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office have achieved one of the major landmarks through the establishment of Sadiqabad check post in the region and few other check posts will also be formed in the jurisdiction with public private partnership including Sakhi Sarwar and Taunsa regions to curb the menace of smuggling.
He told that Dera Ghazi Khan region is widely used route by smugglers. He said that Customs Intelligence and Investigation staff monitoring the whole situation with very close eye to thwart any smuggling attempt after establishment of check posts.
Deputy Director Naveedur Rehman said that fresh appointments of Customs Intelligence and Investigation through Federal Public Service Commission will further enhance the performance through inclusion of fresh blood and it will fill out available vacant positions of employees in the department.
Furthermore he told that Customs Intelligence and Investigation have generated Rs118 million during five months through auction of seized vehicles and goods.
