Directorate R&A Dr Farid to improve EIF system for convenience of importers

KARACHI: The Directorate of Reforms and Automation (R&A) has decided to bring some changes in newly introduced system i.e. Electronic Import Form (EIF) for the convenience of the importers and trading bodies, it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that Director of the Directorate General of Reforms & Automation (R&A) Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi held called a meeting of the officials to discuss the issues in the EIF module.

During the meeting, Dr Farid said that there is a need to bring some changes in the EIF for the convenience of the importers. He said that all the stakeholders, including importers, clearing agents and traders, would be consulted for their recommendations to improve the moduel.

Replying to a query, the sources further disclosed that the federal government has asked the Federal Board of Revenue to ease the newly introduced EIF System, so that the importers could easily understand the system and through this means the trade and import of the country could be enhanced.

It is pertinent to mention here that the FBR have launched the newly introduced EIF System for filing the Goods Declaration (GD) for importing any consignments by the advent of September 2016, the implementation of EIF system was later deferred by the Customs authorities on the request of the importers, as they have some reservations over the newly introduced system.

The sources further informed that the amendments in the EIF system would be disclosed soon before the importers’ community after finalizing the recommendations.
