Peshawar ASO seizes items worth Rs 58m in 25 days

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO), Peshawar, seized different types of smuggled goods worth Rs 58.312 million while foiling various attempts during 25 days of October, 2016

Officials said that the Peshawar Customs, following the instructions of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), was taking stern action against smugglers, adding that it showed satisfactory performance during the said period.

The ASO seized foreign origin fabric, auto parts, black tea, tires, cosmetics, food grains and many others items after the owners failed to show documents regarding legal import of the items, they said.

The officials made four big seizures in which they confiscated foreign origin food grains and tyres worth Rs 34.308 million during first raid.

During second raid, the ASO seized huge quantity of fabric and black tea valued at Rs 11.107 million. These items were brought into country from Afghanistan without payment of leviable duty/taxes and going to supply different parts of country causing loss to national exchequer.

The customs officials also made a successful third seizure in which they captured various goods worth Rs 12.31 million, which were coming from FATA to Peshawar, besides seizing other smuggled items worth Rs 586,000 during fourth raid.

The officials further said that Peshawar ASO was performing well under the supervision of Collector Qurban Ali Khan, adding that the anti-smuggling officials also received appreciation from the collector on showing best performance during first 25 days of October, 2016. They further said that smuggling of goods and vehicles will not be tolerated at any level, as it is damaging national economy badly.
