Hyderabad ASO seizes cigarettes, gutka worth Rs 1m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Hyderabad has seized smuggled cigarettes, Indian gutka worth Rs 1 million during recent action.

The Hyderabad ASO team following the instructions of Collector Agha Shahid Majeed conducted raid in the region to curb smuggling. Under the supervision of Additional Collector Umar Shafique, the team intercepted a donkey cart near Mirpur Khas Road and recovered cigarettes and gutka.

The officials asked the coachman to show documents regarding the loaded items but he could not produce the same; therefore, the officials confiscated the items under the customs laws. The seized items have been shifted to the Customs House.

After making the seizure report, the ASO team send the case to Customs Adjudication for further legal action against the accused person, who was using a different method of smuggling through donkey cart.

The ASO team comprising Deputy Superintendent Sikandar Akbar Phanwar, Inspector Waqar Ahmed Baig, Inspector Nazim Ali, Inspector Shafi Muhammad Jamali, Sepoys Aslam, Esa and Sadique took part in the anti-smuggling operation.

Officials said that Hyderabad Customs Collector Agha Shahid Majeed has ordered to take effective measures for curbing smuggling in the region. They added that the anti-smuggling officials have enhanced vigilance on roads to keep an eye on the movement of smuggled items and vehicles.
