KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations, Quetta, thwarted 14 attempts of smuggling during the month of October 2016.
Sources told Customs Today that during the period, the customs authorities seized a huge quantity of non-duty paid goods which included Iranian diesel, petrol, luxury vehicles, commercial generators, narcotics and other goods. Sources said that recently the customs authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of computer accessories while during another action they seized narcotics and arrested three persons who were involved in smuggling.
Sources said that Director Customs Irfanur Rehman received credible information about narcotics smuggling. He immediately constituted a team comprising customs staff. The team established checking points on different roads of the city and started checking of vehicles.
Sources said that customs team intercepted a passenger bus and recovered 15 kilograms of hashish. The hashish were tactfully hidden in secret parts of the bus. Customs team arrested three persons who were boarded on the bus and registered a case of smuggling against them.
During another operation customs team foil an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of computer accessories. Sources said that during routine checking customs team intercepted a truck and recovered more than 100 hard disks of computers, 200 mother boards, rims, computer cameras, net cables and other items. Upon demand the driver of the truck and his companion failed to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of these goods. Customs team arrested both persons and registered a case of smuggling against them. The market value of seized computer goods is Rs6,00,000.
