FBR’s inquiry against clearance of vehicles under amnesty scheme going on in full speed

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue-FBR has decided to finalise the inquiry, which is being carried out in connection with the clearance of vehicles during amnesty scheme, it is learnt here.

The sources informed Customs Today that he FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan, through a letter to Chief Collector Appraisement South Abdul Rashid Shaikh, has asked him to complete the inquiry into the clearance of vehicles and submit a detailed report at the end of this month. Sources said that the FBR has told the officials to fix the responsibility so that legal action should be taken against them.

Reacting upon the directives issued by the FBR, the Chief Collector Appraisement South was called upon a meeting of the Collectors of all three field formations.

The Chief Collector Appraisement South Abdul Rashid Shaikh has asked the Collectors of Appraisement West, Customs Appraisement (East) and Port Qasim to expedite the investigation into the following cases.

The collectors were briefed the Chief Collector Appraisement South about the ongoing investigation into the matter and stated that 80 percent investigation has been completed and soon a final list in this regard would be prepared and submitted.

It is pertinent to mention here that most of the vehicles under amnesty schemes were cleared from Appraisement West and Appraisement East.

Meanwhile, Collector Customs Appraisement West Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi held a meeting of the officers of the Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB). The meeting was attended by additional collectors, deputy collectors and assistant collectors.

During the meeting, the Collector Dr Farid Iqbal asked the officials to detect tax evasion and mis-decalaration cases. The collector further asked the officers to serve show-cause notices on those importers who were allegedly involved in tax evasion.

The officers while briefing Collector Dr Farid Iqbal about the performance of AIB informed that they have already been served around 30 show-cause notices (SCN) to the unscrupulous elements during the last 45 days, adding that further scrutiny about the cleared consignments is being underway.

The Collector Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi asked the officers to keep more vigilant eye over the post clearance consignments, so that revenue collection could be enhanced.
