SHC seeks comments on petition filed by Mansoor Foods Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought comments from the petitioner on a constitutional petition filed by M/s Mansoor Foods Karachi challenging the impugn categorization and valuation (8 to 20 mesh) at the rate of $2.74 and (21-40 mesh) at the rate of 4.24/kg.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Irfan Sadat Khan and Justice Muhammad Humayun Khan, was hearing the petition. During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner sought time to submit comments, therefore, the court adjourned the hearing for the date which would be announced by the SHC office.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is a regular importer of sodium saccharine (20-40) mesh at the rate of $2.75/kg, however, respondents issued said valuation ruling and categorized the valuation (8 to 20 mesh) at the rate of $2.74 and (21-40 mesh) at the rate of 4.24/kg illegal, mala fide indention which creating hardship for the importers. Importer argued that said goods are same, therefore, no needs for categorization.

Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Collector of Customs Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement East and Director of General Valuation as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court may set aside impugn categorization of the said goods.
