Qatar telecom market revenue performance revealed

DOHA: The telecom service revenue in Qatar is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.1 percent during 2016-2021, primarily driven by growth in data revenue.

Fixed VoIP will be the fastest-growing segment in Qatar with a CAGR of 15.7 percent over the 2016-2021 period owing to investment and expansion in fiber networks, said Pyramid Research in its latest telecom research report.

The telecom report said Qatar will be the second-fastest growing telecom services market in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region in 2016.

The telecom service revenue in Qatar will remain stable at $2.6 billion in 2016. Telecom service revenue in Qatar will grow at a CAGR of 5.1 percent during 2016-2021, mainly driven by data segments (mobile and fixed).

Mobile revenue will account for 69.2 percent of total telecom revenue in 2021 and mobile data will be the fastest-growing segment over 2016-2021.

Pyramid Research said it expects the contribution of mobile data to mobile services revenue to reach 59.5 percent by 2021, driven by competitive data packages.

The Qatar telecom market will be dominated by Ooredoo Qatar as the leading operator, followed by Vodafone Qatar. Telecom operators will continue to invest in mobile and fixed networks to compete effectively in the Qatar telecom market.

Vodafone had 1,458,000 mobile phone customers in Qatar as of September 2016. Fixed broadband customers of Vodafone in Qatar were 5,000.

Under the Supernet initiative, Ooredoo Qatar aims to provide ultrafast 4G+ services to customers with the aim of making Qatar one of the world’s most connected countries.

Ooredoo Group reported revenues of $8.8 billion in 2015 and had a consolidated global customer base of 117 million customers as of 31 December 2015.
