Sialkot dry port handles 728,320-tonne cargo in Nov, Dec

SIALKOT: Sialkot dry port handled recorded movement of 728,320-tonne cargo during the months of November and December, 2016 including 407,880-tonne of import oriented consignments and 320,440-tonne of export oriented consignments.

As per the details the dry port handled 678,346-tonne cargo during the corresponding period of 2015. The traders imports leather, raw material for soccer balls, surgical instruments and etc while in the exports included sports goods, leather garments, gloves and other sports and leather industrial related items.

Customs official told Customs Today that Sialkot Customs cleared the consignments, which will be sent abroad by sea from Karachi, after receiving import duty and other charges as per customs law.

Deputy Collector Waheed Anwar Abro, deal with import and export matters at the dry port. He added that the small medium enterprises were also playing their role to boost the exports from the regions.

Customs Inspector Sheikh Ikram said that the import and export at SDPT is increasing while it is a great achievement of Sialkot Customs adding that, the traders were cooperating with the department to earn foreign exchange. Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Choudhary also dealing the import matters and he said that the export and import by sea through Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) is increasing whereas the Customs Department is also guiding traders to boost their import and export.

He said that the Customs Department is arranging seminars and workshops to educate the traders to improve their export and import with new technology and new traditions.
