SIALKOT: The auction policy of non-customs paid mobile phones has not declared by the government as yet and the Customs Department is bearing losses worth billions of rupees annually.
Sources told Customs Today that all customs collectorates have confiscated a large number of non-duty paid mobile phones during various raids. Sources said that these mobile phones are still in the custody of the customs collectorates and locked in stores while the prices of these mobile phones are decreasing day after day.
Sources added that the department is bearing loss of billion of rupees due to delay in cell phones auction policy. Huge quantity of valuable mobile phones included confiscated mobile phones and those which have already in the record of all Customs collectorates of the country.
Customs official said that the government has already declared that confiscated mobile phones will auction to concern companies dealers’ but the government has not announced any policy for this purpose.
The department has sent recommendations to the government three times ago but government not considered. Sources told until the government will not consider the recommendations of customs department and not announce policy of auction of confiscated mobile phone the auction of these these not be conducted.
Official said that 200,000 seized mobile phones are in the stores of all customs collectorates in the country and their price is decreasing day by day. When contacted Deputy Collector Muhammad Hanif Khan, he said that the recommendations have sent to government about announcement of auction of confiscated mobile phones but government reply is still awaited.
He said it is true that the customs department is bearing loss of billion rupees due to no auction of these mobile phones, therefore, government should announce the auction policy as soon as possible.
