Faisalabad ASO seizes goods worth Rs1.7m; ADC Saima takes charge

FAISALABAD:The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Mianwali seized smuggled goods worth Rs 1.7 million involving customs duty and taxes Rs 411,738 and impounded a Nissan truck trailer worth Rs three million under Section 157 of the Customs Act-1969 during an operation.

According to details, Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received tip-off about the transportation of smuggled goods. He immediately constituted a team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Muhammad Umar Bhatti, Azhar Hussain Jafari, Driver Riasat Hussain, Sepoys Muhammad Ashraf, Faiz Ahmad, Riaz Ahmad and Muhammad Yousaf.

The team started checking vehicles and intercepted a trailer bearing registration No: TLF-676 near toll plaza M.M Road Mianwali. The driver was identified as Shahid Iqbal son of Muzafar Khan, a resident of Mainwali. The ASO officials recovered foreign origin porcelain including bowls, plates, cups and mugs.

The ASO team asked the driver to show legal documents regarding the possession and transportation of porcelain goods. The driver failed to provide the required documents. After his failure, the ASO team registered a case of smuggling and seized the loaded goods and offending vehicle and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceedings.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Collector Saima Aftab assumed the charge of her new assignment at the Customs Adjudication with immediate effect.
