SIALKOT: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Gujranwala team impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Hilux Surf worth Rs1 million on GT Road during an operation.
According to details, Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan instructed Assistant Director Ishart Hussain to supervise the operation against non-duty paid vehicles and goods in the region. Ishrat Hussain constituted a team to impound non-duty paid vehicles.
The Customs Intelligence team comprised Superintendent Tariq Rafique, Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar, Inspector Saad Iqbal Sidhu, Constable Usama, Constable Boota and Constable Mubashir.
The team started checking vehicles on GT Road and intercepted a Toyota Hilux Surf model-2008 worth Rs1 million. The vehicle was not bearing a registration number. The customs team asked the driver Ghulam Rasool to show documents regarding possession and legal import of the vehicle. But he failed to provide the required documents.
After his failure, the customs officials impounded the vehicle and registered a case against the accused under the Customs Act-1969. The team shifted the vehicle to Customs Warehouse.
While, during another operation, Customs Intelligence team confiscated 46 Iranian origin tyres worth Rs300, 000 including duty Rs150, 000 near Toll Plaza Kamoke, GT road, Gujranwala.
The tyres were being transported in a loader truck form Lahore to Gujranwala. The driver of the vehicle told Customs team that he is a lay man and he was asked by a tyres merchant of Lahore to deliver the tyres. The Customs team confiscated the smuggled tyres and let the driver go. The team shifted the tyres to Customs Warehouse.
The sources said that the customs authorities will issue a legal notice to the accused merchant against trade and transportation of illegal goods.
The Customs team forwarded both cases to Customs Adjudication department for further proceeding.
