Railways to spend Rs150m on Raiwind Station’s renovation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has started renovation of Raiwind Railway Station at the cost of Rs 150 million for the provision of better facilities to the passengers.  The renovation work of the building of Raiwind Station will be completed by February 2018, a senior official in the Ministry of Railways told APP.

He said that electric lamps will also be installed in the second phase at Raiwind Railway Station for attracting passengers and beautification. “The renovated Raiwind station will facilitate thousands of the devotees who come to attend religious congregation of Tablighi Jammat,” he added.

He said the Raiwind station lies on the main railway route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project and was being upgraded with the expertise of 350 Chinese engineers.  “More better facilities would be ensured at Raiwind station including a reservation office, sitting arrangements and place for prayers, the official said. He said that the present government was taking historic steps to modernize Pakistan Railways and its system to facilitate passengers.

To a question, the official said that forty railway stations will be renovated, reconstructed, repaired across the country.  In this regard, he said that work has been started on Sibi, Harnai and Karachi railway stations. Besides, construction work will be started on 12 railway stations in Sindh, 10 in Punjab and five in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and four in Balochistan.
