Chief Collector Appraisement (South) asks importers to file complete GDs to avoid penalties

KARACHI: Chief Collector Appraisement (South) has asked the importers and clearing agents to file complete documents while filing Goods Declaration (GD) to avoid penalty to be imposed on incomplete/incorrect declaration of imported goods and non-compliance of directives issued by the customs.

The Chief Collector Appraisement (South) issued a circular regarding incomplete/incorrect declaration of imported goods recently.

The customs laws required importers/clearing agents to submit true declarations while filing GD along with supporting documents as required under Section 79(I) a & b of the Customs Act, 1969.

The notification said that for instance, for import of tea, certified invoice from Pakistan Tea Association; in case of Drug, ADC certified invoice; in case of import of Iron and Steel Products, L/C where applicable, PPRO certificate where required, verified copy of FTA where claimed, certificates of PSQCA etc.

The notification said that despite repeated reminders, it had been observed that certain importers/clearing agents were still not uploading all the required documents at the time of filing of GD.

The Chief Collector warned the importers and clearing agents that from May 10, 2017 in case of non-compliance found then it would attract fine and penalties.
