LAHORE: Closure of businesses will result in economic downturn as industrial wheel once halt, will require a long time to get back on the track. The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) is a non-political entity and all desires to see the business activities continue without any let and hindrance and will never support any action that hampers economic activities

In a statement issued here, LCCI President Ijaz A Mumtaz expressed grave concerns over Faisalabad incident and termed it a severe blow to the national economy.

He pointed out that the protests and strike not only affected businesses but also disturb all segments of society.

The LCCI chief emphasized that all political forces should initiate consultations with trading bodies including chambers of commerce and industry to chalk out an elaborate plan of action. He pointed out that the consultation would be aimed at reducing dependence on external assistance and achieving long-cherished economic goals.

Mumtaz said that political debate and economic policy considerations require convergence at this critical juncture of country’s history. This is a prerequisite to help reduce dependence on International Financial Institutions (IFIs) like IMF and the WB and for paving way for self-reliance in coming years,” he said.
