SHC seeks comments from Tax Dept on petition filed by M/s Power Steel Foundry

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the Tax Department to file para-wise comments on a constitutional petition filed by M/s Power Steel Foundry against the auction of its 329.180 MT iron and steel re-meltable scrap valued at Rs1.4million.

While hearing the case, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, also directed it to file its respective comments on the next date of hearing. The court also adjourned the matter for August 10, 2017.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is engaged in the business of importing raw material for his foundry. He informed the court that officials of the Customs Department have auctioned a consignment of the petitioner 329.180 MT iron and steel re-metlable scrap valued at Rs1.4million without serving any notice on the petitioner.

Citing to Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, Collector of Customs Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement East, Deputy Collector Model Customs Collectorate East Wharf Karachi as respondents, he pleaded with the court to kindly direct the respondents to pay the cost of auctioned goods or return back goods and also cost of the litigation may be given to the petitioner.
