Customs court approves three-day physical remand of two accused in smuggling case

LAHORE: The Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a three-day physical remand of two accused arrested in the smuggling of different items.

Two accused named Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Naeem were apprehended in an attempt of smuggling of flavors, cigars, cigarettes, betel leaves and other items. They were booked by the customs intelligence when customs took action against them on the secret intelligence information.

The customs team had raided a warehouse in Lahore and recovered hundreds of kilogram of smuggled goods. The customs team registered a case against them under Pakistan Customs Act-1969.

The customs investigation and prosecution team had presented them before the customs and taxation court and asked for their five-day physical remand. Special Judge of customs court Tahir Sabir handed over them to the customs team for three days.

The customs court had also told the customs team to present them before the court after the completion of the physical remand.

Sources told Customs Today that worth of the smuggled items is in millions. The accused have caused the national kitty a huge loss of duties and taxes. Sources also told CT that smugglers had threatened the team of customs intelligence with dire consequences if their smuggled items were impounded.
