ASO foils attempt to smuggle non duty paid mobiles, foreign currency from Bacha Khan Airport

PESHAWAR: Custom anti smuggling squad thwarted a major attempt of mobile smuggling in Hayatabad Phase III and seized mobile phones worth Rs17 million on Wednesday while foreign currency was also recovered at Bacha Khan airport.

Sources told Customs Today that on tip off received to Deputy Collector Anti Smuggling Orgaization (ASO) Abdul Shakoor regarding smuggling of mobile phones from Afghanistan to Peshawar. Following the information Deputy Collector constituted a team under the supervision of Inspector Ajmal and traced the suspected vehicle bearing registration no: LE-9064 Punjab.

After flag down of the car custom team search various cavities of the car and recovered 1770 mobiles phones. The mobile squad handed over the mobile phones to Custom House locker where large number of mobile phone has remained non functional.

Meanwhile in separate crackdowns custom team deputed at Bacha Khan International Airport thwarted attempt of smuggling of foreign currency and recovered 23 kilogram opium and chars seized on motorway.

In first crackdown a Suzuki motor was intercepted by the customs officials at motorway check posts and after searching its hidden cavities they recovered 23 kilogram opium worth of Rs2.7 million rupees. They also arrested Sajjad son of Bukhar Shah, resident of Nowshera.

In separate crackdown at Bacha Khan International Airport a tip received to Assistant Collector Miss Sadaf regarding foreign currency. After checking the passenger foreign currency of 0.1 million UAE dirham were recovered.
