PESHAWAR: Some expensive monuments of the Peshawar Museum have been stopped by the Korean Customs for not clearing customs duty by Pakistani government.
These monuments had been sent for exhibition by the Federal Government of Pakistan to Korea. Even after the lapse of a week of the exhibition, monuments have not been returned to the Peshawar Museum so far for which the Federal Board of Revenue has written a remission letter to the Korean embassy.
The Korean embassy first declared the monuments counterfeit upon which the Department of Heritage and Culture has sent the confirmation of verification to the Korean authorities. These monuments are worth billions of rupees on which government pays millions of duty, said AFU In-Charge at the Peshawar Airport. There has been applied customs duty on the transfer of old monuments from one country to another for which the government often asks for remission of duty.
Since a week, the officials of the Peshawar Museum have been inquiring about the return of these valuable monuments but the Korean Airport rejected the call to supply them without calculating customs duty.
The sources further said the Korean embassy, after reviewing the letter from the FBR, will decide the fate of these monuments.
It is hoped that these monuments will soon be brought to their original place due to their value and importance to best represent our custom and heritage.
