LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved three-day physical remands of two accused arrested in smuggling of mobile phones and some other items as well from Lahore.
Accused Muhammad Naveed and Muhammad Faisal were apprehended by the customs intelligence authorities from Lahore. The customs intelligence has found 9,700 mobile phones of different models from a warehouse of the accused. The accused have caused the treasury a big loss of taxes.
Sources said they were intercepted by the customs authorities at Hall Road. The customs intelligence authorities conducted an operation on the intelligence based information and arrested both accused. The customs intelligence recovered smuggling non-custom-paid mobile phones and accessories from the possession of the accused.
The customs intelligence recovered 340,000 mobile phone chargers, hand-frees and data cables from a warehouse belonged to the accused.
The customs investigation team presented them before the customs court for getting their physical remands to investigate more on the issue that was granted by the court. Customs Judge Tahir Sabir approved the remands for three days. After the completion of the remands, customs team has been directed by the court to present them again before the court for further action.
The customs has registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation as well after impounding the vehicle and clothes that they were trying to smuggle into the country. The customs authorities have registered a case against them under the Pakistan Customs Act-1969.
