Multan Customs recovers huge quantity of non duty paid Q-Mobiles from Cantonment area

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs team raided a house located in Cantonment area and recovered huge quantity of non-customs paid mobile phones (Q Mobile) worth Rs100 million.

Multan Customs has accelerated their efforts to curb smuggling attempts in the region after clear directions from Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha, Member Customs Zahid Khokar and Chief Collector Zeba Hai Azhar.

Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization initiated strict actions against smuggled goods to restrain and discourage smuggling in the region. Collector Saud Imran Ahmad told in a news conference that they received credible information that huge quantity of smuggled cell phones was stored in the residential house located in Cantonment area near Mall Plaza.

On the basis of said information received Collector Customs constituted special team of Anti-Smuggling Organization under his supervision which was led by Additional Collector Asdaq Afzal Senera and Assistant Collector Zohaib Sandhila to take immediate action against smuggled cell phones. Anti-Smuggling Organization Multan raided the house and recovered almost 8500 various foreign branded cell phones of Q-Mobile and other companies.

Seized cell phones were shifted to Multan Customs House. There was arrest made in this action and Multan Customs has approached to cantonment for details of renters and Multan Customs has also lodged First Information Report(FIR)  against the culprit in this regard.

He told media persons that Multan Customs has done numerous successful raids against the private warehouse containing smuggled goods of worth millions before this action. Anti-Smuggling Organization was re-organized after joining Multan Customs in March 2017 and Customs staff were deployed strategically in the jurisdiction to foil the different attempts of smuggling. Multan Customs has seized almost 87 various vehicles of valuing almost Rs.264.972 million from March to October. The seized vehicles includes Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Hilux Surf, Mitsubishi Pajero, Toyota Crown, Toyota Hiace Van,Toyota  Rush Jeep, Toyota Premio, Toyota Feilder,Toyota Mark X,Toyota Vitz,Suzuki Swift, Suzuki Alto ,Hino Truck ,Suzuki Vitara,Honda Civic ,Toyota Passo and others. Most of these vehicles were already auctioned for the generation of revenue.

Collector told that anti-smuggling strategy of Multan Customs is producing fruitful results against smuggling in the Jurisdiction. Smuggling is curse and we are taking stern action against them without any discrimination. These seized smuggled cell phones inflicted huge loss to the national exchequer and we are committed to curb smuggling from jurisdiction .

Multan Customs recovered 9500 non –customs paid cell phones which were brought into country through unauthorized route . Multan Customs initiated investigation against culprit after lodging FIR .
