Deputy Collector Saima orders to release goods after payment of redemption fine

FAISALABAD: The Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Asma Hameed has decided case of smuggled cloth and issued Order in Original (ONO) in favour of Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO).

As per details, the ASO during a raid recovered foreign origin art silk cloth 750 kilograms worth Rs2,50,000 and asked the owners Salman Zain, Sheraz Muhammad, and Muhammad Sadiq to produce the documents showing the legal import of the items but he remained fail.

Therefore, the ASO seized the smuggled cloth under Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act, 1969. Later the case was forward to adjudication.

The adjudication authority found the items smuggled one as the owner of items shown his willingness to pay duty and taxes leviable on the seized goods.

Therefore, Deputy Collector Saima Ayaz ordered to impound the goods in favor of the federal government under Section 156(1) 90 of the Customs Act 1969.

She further stated that since the lenient view is taken and option under Section 181 of the Customs Act is given to the lawful owner to redeem their respective seized goods in lieu of confiscation on payments of duty and taxes leiviable on goods plus a redemption fine of 20 percent of the customs value to be appraised by the Faisalabad Customs.
