KARACHI: Importers of plastic and glass beads have been forced to pay bribe on every goods declaration allegedly by Appraising Officer Naeem Khan and his other accomplices at Port Qasim Collectorate, Customs Today has learnt.
Apprasing Officer Naeem Khan, who is in group seven of Port Qasim Collectorate, is actually working on deputation from valuation directorate, and has spent over five years in the in clear violation of rules and regulations, sources said.

While elaborating the details, sources said that Naeem Khan has adopted a new way to avail extra income by harassing the importers of plastic and glass beads, sources said, adding that they have to pay illegal gratification of up to Rs 70,000 to him through his front men.
“Importers are told that a contravention report would be submitted to the Adjudication Department if they would not pay the money,” sources told Customs Today.
In the recent past, Naeem Khan and his accomplices sent many contravention reports about the consignments of importers which were sent back as those were not according to the rules, sources said. Now he has started utilising this method to earn illegal income, source added.
An importer claimed that they have decided to raise this issue before high officials and demand the officials to take action against corrupt officers who are harassing the importers for their illegal goals.
