Court accepts charges against suspects booked in oil smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Taxation & Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi accepted a charge-sheet against suspects named Muhammad Rafiq Khan S/o Muhammad Ameen Khan and Muhammad Tahir S/o Ameen Khan booked in a case of smuggled/ non-duty-paid 15,000 liter of HSD Iranian oil.

During the hearing, investigation officer submitted the charge-sheet and informed the court that, on an actionable tip-off, officials of the Customs Department intercepted the oil tanker filled with 15000 liter of HSD Iranian oil for illegal disposal in the local market.

Earlier, investigation officer had produced them before the court and informed the court that the prosecution completed the investigation from suspects. During the investigation, case was proven against them therefore court may send them to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand.

After his arguments, court had sent them to prison and directed the investigation officer to present the charge-sheet and suspects before the court on the next date of hearing.

The case was registered against suspects for violation of Section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) & 178 of the Customs Act-1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub-section (1) read with sub-section (2) of the section 156 of the Customs Act-1969.
