Multan Customs seizes 22 branded drones from GPO

MULTAN: Customs Collectorate team deputed at the General Post Office (GPO) confiscated 22 branded foreign origin drone cameras in their action.

According to details, Multan Customs received various parcels from abroad at the General Post Office Dera Ada which were containing foreign Origin drones cameras.

During the preliminary examination of said parcels, Multan Customs found drones of high resolution cameras and they detain all recovered drones.

Source told Customs Today that imports of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones will require prior clearance permission from government department for the import of drones in the country.

Import of unmanned aircraft system/unmanned aerial vehicle (UAVs)/ remotely piloted aircraft/drones is restricted in Pakistan due to hostile security situation in the country.

Pakistan Customs has banned the import of drone’s cameras for last few years on the recommendation of security departments. The said branded drone’s cameras were imported through online shopping from China and they were imported for commercial purposes. Different consigners were found in the receipt of import of foreign origin drone cameras.

Drones are being considered a major security risk as they could be used by terror groups for mounting assaults in the country.

Drones have already been included in the prohibited list and flyers entering Pakistan will have to declare them and requires special permission for it. Drones are generally imported by government agencies for use by the security personnel in maintaining law and order as well as ensuring vigil along the international borders and line of control with Afghanistan, India and Iran. They have also been used for surveillance in war zone areas by security agencies to curb terrorism.

Further investigation regarding the import of drones is still under way and the value of seized drones is worth in millions.
