Valuation officials moves SHC against importers in mis-declaration case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed respondents to file their para wise comments on an appeal filed by Director of Customs Valuation through Director General against several importers for mis-declaration of consignments of steel bar including rebers/ deformed bar.

On Friday Directives were issued by a division bench on Friday’ hearing headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi on an appeal against M/s Dewan Steel Mills, M/s Majeed & Sons Steel Pvt Ltd, M/s Razaque Pvt Ltd and M/s Ittehad Steel Industries.

During the hearing, counsel for the customs department argued that above mentioned importers have wrongly interpreted the valuation of two different kind and quality variety of goods to the one and the same, it is explained that the valuation of steel bar including rebers/ deformed bars, chromium has been determined for rating @ $ 560 MT, whereas, alloy steel bar has been determined @ $ 885 MT, the instead of appreciating the department initiative to curb intentions of mis-declaration, the importers have disputed the valuation on false claimed have failed to establish their case before the director general valuation.

Counsel argued that customs department took action against the importers who moved appellate tribunal which set aside impugned order of the customs department.

Citing M/s Dewan Steel Mills, M/s Majeed & Sons Steel Pvt Ltd, M/s Razaque Pvt Ltd and M/s Ittehad Steel Industries as respondents, counsel pleaded the court may set aside impugned order of the appellate tribunal and restore its order.
