Customs Court seeks charge-sheet against suspects booked in smuggling of iPhone, iPad, MacBook

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer of Customs Intelligence to complete investigation and submit final charge-sheet against suspect namely Imran Jaffar son of Muhammad Jaffar and others, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid iPhone, iPad, MacBook etc.

On October 09, 2018, investigation officer informed the court that charge sheet will be produced when investigations are completed.

He submitted that on an actionable information that a large quantity of non-duty paid/smuggled foreign-origin latest model mobile phones, and other electronic items liable to confiscation are hidden/dumped at the premises located at Room313-B, G-Smart, 3rd floor, Sasi Arcade, Block 7, Clifton, Karachi.

He said that when team raided the above-mentioned placed, the owner, Imran Jaffar refused to receive the copy of statement and when he was asked to produce lawful documents, he did not produce any documents. During the search, team found iPhones, iPads, MacBook, keyboards & Apple devices for TV; however, member of a purported market association along with other 25/30 persons reached there and abused the raiding team to block them from performing their official duties and they also snatched 14 sets mobile phones, 19 sets of iPads, 27 sets of MacBook, 13 Apple devices for TV and 200 keyboard etc.

Investigation officer further informed the court that it is established beyond any shadow of doubt that the accused persons criminally involved in the commission of offence of smuggling of above-mentioned goods, creating obstruction/hindrance in the performance of officials duties by the officers of directorate.

He submitted that all the above-mentioned culprits have gone underground to avoid their arrest; however, hectic efforts are under way to bring them to book and further investigations are still in progress.
