Customs Court issues non-bailable warrants against absconding betel nuts smugglers

KARACHI: The Customs Court issued non-bailable warrants against absconding suspects namely Inayat Ullah and Haji Sadiq, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid betel nuts, Indian tablets and other contraband goods.

On December 31, 2018, investigation officer of customs preventive appeared before the court and informed that investigations are undergone and prosecution is trying its best for arrest of absconding suspects and they will be produced when arrested before the court.

After hearing, the court issued non-bailable warrants against absconding suspects and directed investigation officer to arrest them and produce before the court.

According to the interim challan, on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted three non-duty paid Toyota Surf Jeep bearing registration numbers: BF-0150, FB 1429 and BF-2096 and during the search, customs team also found 147 PP Bags containing betel nuts total 3381 kg valuing to Rs899,346, 47 box containing 2350 strips of relief tablets (Indian) total 23500 tablets and 01 carton containing Penegra tablets (Indian) 7520 tablets.

He argued that no documents regarding the lawful importation/purchase/procurement/transportation of the recovered goods were products by suspects namely Abdul Sattar, Ahmed, Ahmed Ullah, Daro Khan, Abdul Bari and Abdul Baqi, therefore, all suspects were taken into custody and case was registered.
