PORT HURON:A Canadian citizen is awaiting charges after being busted at the U.S.-Canadian border with nearly 10 lbs. of methamphetamine.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say officers at the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron made the bust as Constantine Xethalis was attempting to enter the United States around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

During the primary inspection Xethalis, along with a passenger in the vehicle were unable to provide proof of citizenship to the CBP officer and were referred for a secondary inspection. That’s when officers found a bag containing nearly 10 lbs. of what officers believed to be meth in tablet form. A sample of the tablets were taken to the Oakland County Laboratory for examination, where they were confirmed to contain meth.

“This is a perfect example of the type of activities that CBP sees every day at Ports of Entry around the United States,” Port Director Michael Fox said in a press release. “Our officers here in Port Huron are true professionals and can be proud today knowing they stopped 10 lbs. of drugs from making it to the streets of America.”

The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan has accepted prosecution on the case. Xethalis is being charged with importation of a scheduled 1 controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute controlled substance.

The Border Enforcement Security Task Force Port Huron is conducting an investigation, which is ongoing.
