MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs team seized huge quantity of non-duty paid imported glassware crockery items including dinner set, tea set and other items worth Rs.2.5 million including vehicle being used for smuggling.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Saqib-ur-Rehman received secret information that some smugglers are trying to smuggle non-duty-paid imported crockery items which includes dinner set, tea set and others from Jurisdiction.
After receiving this information, he constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Superintendent Muhammad Ramzan Seyal, Inspector Ghulam Asghar, Muhammad Maqsood Ahmad and others to thwart their attempt of smuggling. Customs Anti-smuggling squad was deputed at different positions for strict vigilance of goods. Customs teams intercepted a suspected Hino truck from Sher Shah Bypass and recovered huge quantity of foreign origin crockery .The truck was coming from Quetta through Dera Ghazi Khan region and its destination was Multan.
Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization team recovered almost 1308 different cartons of foreign origin glass ware crockery including dinner sets, tea sets and others valued at Rs.2.5 million. The truck was also taken into custody which was almost Rs4.5 million in their action. Driver of the vehicle was asked to produce import documents to justify their legal possession but they failed to produce.
Multan Customs seized the non-duty paid crockery under Section 16 of the Customs Act 1969 and 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act 1950 punishable under Section 156(1)90 of the Customs Act 1969.
