Multan Customs seizes smuggled Magnesium Powder worth Rs17.5m from DG Khan

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) seized huge quantity of smuggled foreign Magnesium Powder along with truck worth Rs 17.5 million from Dera Ghazi Khan.

According to details, Assistant Collector Javaid Raza received information from its credible source that huge quantity of non-customs duty goods will be smuggled through jurisdiction. Assistant Director alerted its staff and formed special team comprising Inspector Qaswar Shah, Inspector Muhammad Umer, Zulfiqar and Shakil ur Rehman to foil any attempt of smuggling. Customs Intelligence teams enhanced patrolling of different routes of Dera Ghazi Khan to intercept them by deputing staff at entrance of different points for strict vigilance.

Field Investigation Unit (FIU) Dera Ghazi Khan intercepted a suspected truck bearing registration number C/3708/Swat near Shoria Bypass Dera Ghazi Khan which was fully loaded with foreign Origin Magnesium Powder (TALC Powder).

Customs Intelligence recovered 40,000 kilograms or 40 MT Magnesium Powder during the examination of truck which was coming from Peshawar and its final destination was Karachi.

Customs Intelligence Staff asked the driver Haji Din Gul to produce documents regarding legal import of the recovered goods. But driver of the truck failed to produce any legal documents to justify its legal possession of said Magnesium Powder regarding the transportation. Driver told Customs staff that he has booked Magnesium Powder by M/s Awami Goods Transport Company Ring Road Peshawar. The net worth of seized Magnesium Powder is almost Rs17.5 million.

Customs Intelligence staff seized Magnesium Powder along with truck which amounting almost Rs10 million involving duty and taxes of Rs 6 million. Customs Intelligence seized Magnesium Powder under Section 18, 32 of the Customs Act-1969 read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act-1969.Further investigations are still underway.
