Multan I&I seizes smuggled goods & vehicles worth Rs654.4m

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) in Multan Region has launched relentless crackdown on smuggling activities, resulting in the impoundment of nearly Rs654.4 million worth of non-customs paid goods and vehicles during April 2024.

Under the dynamic leadership of Director Asif Khan Buzdar, and with the steadfast support of and Director General Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, the Directorate has intensified its efforts to combat smuggling in the region.

The zero-tolerance policy against smuggling has yielded remarkable results, with Additional Director Mumtaz Ali Raza and Deputy Directors Umair Zahid playing pivotal roles in closing smuggling routes and thwarting illicit attempts despite facing pressure from criminal elements.

Director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Asif Abbas Khan, initiated aggressive anti-smuggling measures under the directives of Director General Faiz Ahmad Chadhar. Throughout April, teams led by Additional Director Mamtaz Ali Khan meticulously executed operations, targeting multiple checkpoints across the region’s cities.

The seized goods, including vehicles, smuggled diesel, cigarettes, betel nuts, paan parag, Iranian saffron, Chinese salt, and various other items, have been impounded under the Customs Act of 1969 and relocated to a designated warehouse for further processing.

Director Asif Abbas Khan reiterated the department’s unwavering commitment to combatting smuggling, emphasizing its detrimental impact on the national economy and local industries.

Customs authorities in Multan Region pledge to maintain their proactive stance against smuggling networks and vow to escalate enforcement measures to deter future illicit activities.
