MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Air Freight Unit has reported a modest revenue collection of Rs 0.278 million for July 2024, underscoring the fiscal challenges in the current economic climate.
The unit collected Rs0.620 million in customs duties from the clearance of import goods at Multan International Airport. Additionally, Rs0.185 million was garnered under the head of sales tax, while income tax contributions stood at Rs 0.033 million for the same period.
However, these figures reflect a decline in revenue collection attributed to stricter currency declaration protocols and enhanced surveillance by customs officials at the airport.
These measures, aimed at ensuring compliance and reducing illegal activities, have inadvertently impacted duty collection.
Multan Customs officials have expressed concern over the diminishing revenues, citing the broader economic crisis as a significant factor. The MCC Multan is actively developing strategies to address these challenges and enhance its revenue collection efforts.
In response to the situation, the customs authorities are planning a series of initiatives designed to improve revenue streams, including reviewing current policies and exploring innovative enforcement measures.
