FBR rolls out password & account recovery features in IRIS 2.0

LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has rolled out significant updates in its IRIS 2.0 system, making password and account recovery easier for taxpayers across Pakistan.

In the past, taxpayers who lost access to their old mobile numbers often faced serious hurdles in resetting their FBR passwords. They had to either visit their Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) or rely on recovery agents, often paying heavy fees. This caused delays in filing returns, especially for individuals who had relocated or were working outstation.

With the new Account Recovery option, in addition to the existing Forgot Password feature, users can now reset their passwords using their registered cell numbers—even if these were not previously linked with their accounts. This move has been widely appreciated by the general public for reducing hassle and making compliance more convenient.

Alongside this, FBR has also enhanced its New Registration tab. Taxpayers registering for the first time will now need to provide their CNIC, expiry date, date of birth, and full name. Previously, only CNIC expiry or date of birth was optional, which led to verification issues.

These reforms are part of FBR’s broader efforts to simplify digital tax filing and ensure that taxpayers can manage their accounts smoothly without unnecessary visits to tax offices.
