R&D Section of Appraisement-East recovers around Rs16m in Dec 2014

KARACHI: The Research and Development (R&D) Section of Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement (East), while following the directives of the Collector Najeeb-ur-Rehman Abbasi, has recovered an amount of Rs 16149843 in December-2014 after detecting 24 cases of tax evasion in which the importers were involved in mis-declaration of value, non-application of correct valuation rulings, mis-declaration of PCT, misusing of SROs and mis-using of classification in clearing their consignments.

According to details, the R&D Section has recovered an amount of Rs185415 on non-application of valuation guideline on import of hot melt adhesive; recovered an amount of Rs314049 on mis-declaration of PCT/value on import of cutting and creasing rules; recovered an amount of Rs175435 on valuation dispute on import of ISO Propyl Alcohol/ recycled commercial.

The R&D Section with the teamwork has succeeded to recover an amount of Rs201012 on valuation dispute on import of Bituman Grade; recovered an amount of Rs397191 on mis-declaration of value on import of activated carbon; recovered an amount of Rs337431 on misuse of FTA benefit on import of drinking glass; recovered an amount of Rs407880 on inadmissible benefit of FTA on import of drinking glass; recovered an amount of Rs814605 on inadmissible benefit of FTA on import of drinking glass; recovered an amount of Rs732564 on inadmissible benefit of FTA  on import of drinking glass; recovered an amount of Rs188204 on mis-declaration of value and classification on import of clutch plates.

The R&D Section has recovered an amount of Rs121374 on mis-declaration of value on import of baby feeder bottles; recovered an amount of Rs177457 on inadmissible benefit of FTA  on import of plastic brushes; recovered an amount of Rs1336572 on mis-declaration of description, value and PCT  on import of assorted scrap; recovered an amount of Rs76381 on mis-declaration of value on import of Calcium filler for plastics; recovered an amount of Rs1370333 on mis-declaration of value and classification on import of motorcycle spare parts; recovered an amount of Rs254159 on mis-declaration of PCT quantity and value.

The R&D Section has also recovered an amount of Rs3466420 on wrong exemption of FTA  on import of cookware set; recovered an amount of Rs45062 on incorrect valuation ruling  on import of bearing; recovered an amount of Rs173776 on mis-declaration of value and PCT on import of plastic small pouch; recovered an amount of Rs675975 on mis-declaration of value on import of nuts.

The R&D recovered an amount of Rs2003831 on mis-declaration of value and PCT on import of motorcycle spare parts; recovered an amount of Rs174830 on non-application of PCT classification on import of PVC panel with PVC clip for wall/ceiling covering and recovered an amount of Rs227887 on mis-declaration of value on import of plywood.

The sources informed Customs Today that the Collector-MCC Appraisement (East) Najeeb-ur-Rehman Abbasi has expressed his satisfaction over the recovery done by the R&D Section in the month of December-2014 and asked the authorities concerned to continue their same zealous efforts in recovering the revenue through detecting under-invoicing and mis-declaration cases.
